The list is now also colour coded to make it easier to see the liveries still available. As models are reserved or purchased they will be removed from the list.

Class 52 'Western' prototype model

Fresh from the foundry, and still bearing all the scars of its creation, is the first pre-production model of our forthcoming Class 52 'Western' diesel hydraulic.

Showing every sign of being the best Masterpiece Model yet, this impressive leviathan is bristling with detail and replicates the exact and complex shapes of the original, having been developed from 3D laser scans of D1015 'Western Champion'. Like all pre-production models, there are things that need to be changed and refined and the model has already been appraised by our panel of experts. It will shortly be scrutinised by the Diesel Traction Group, owners of D1015.

At present the model is something of a hybrid; for example it is fitted with the extended lamp backets, added in later years to carry emergency Bardic lamps, but it lacks the air brake pipes which would have been present in the same period. All such anomalies will be resolved on the production models and each individual model will be correct in all respects for its chosen period.

Powered by a high-end Swiss coreless motor, drive is delivered to all six axles. The pre-production model exhibited stunning slow running capabilities, controllable down to 6min 50sec to cover a one yard length of track! At the other end of the scale it will haul prototypical loads with ease at the impressive speeds one would expect from a mighty 'Western'.

Development will continue through the spring, with production starting in the summer for delivery to the UK before the end of 2018.

Hand-built wooden display plinths

Our new, hand-built track plinths offer a great way to display your Masterpiece Model to prime advantage. Limited production capacity means that the plinths are currently only available in ScaleSeven, but if there is sufficient demand we may extend production to Finescale 0 gauge plinths.

We offer three types of wood – pale beech, natural oak and dark African hardwood – and each plinth features handmade ScaleSeven track. You can specify bullhead or flat-bottom rail and there is a choice of chairs, the example shown here being the GWR two-bolt style. Sleepers are real wood, stained and weathered to look authentic, and rail sides and chairs are weathered to a realistic 'rust' colour.

Two sizes are offered, suitable for tender engines and tank locomotives, and felt pads are fitted to the underside.

49XX Hall pre-production model

Our first 'Hall' pre-production model – of the 49XX series – has arrived. This superb model of the ubiquitous GWR 'maid of all work' is already proving very popular and we feel the builder has made a remarkable job with very little needing to be corrected. After being reviewed by our experts the pre-production model will be returned to the builder ready for production to commence. Like the other Great Western 4-6-0s is our programme, the 'Halls' will be fitted as standard with switchable DC / DCC with sound, and will feature working inside motion, highly detailed cab and opening smokebox door revealing the tubeplate, steam pipes and blastpipe.

The Masterpiece Models 'Hall' can be ordered with Collett or Haksworth 4,000 gallon tenders, the new Collet 3,500 gallon tender or the Churchward 3,500 gallon tender.
