Exceptional museum quality model locomotives for modellers, enthusiasts and collectors

Pannier Tank first models

Here are the first Masterpiece Models GWR/BR Pannier Tanks received from the builder. Portraying the the original 57XX and 8750 series with the early and later style of cab and a number of detail differences, they are absolute gems.

Apart from the incredible level of detail, they feature working inside motion, a fully-fitted cab interior complete with the distinctive rear driving wheel springs, opening smokebox door with tubeplate and blast pipe, as well as split-axle pick-up through the hornblocks. Power is provided by a Faulhaber motor driving through a specially designed, fully enclosed gearbox. DCC sound is optional.

68XX 'Grange' now in production

The 'Grange' 4-6-0 is one of the best loved GWR 4-6-0s and the Masterpiece Models rendition of it is exceptional. The Swindon Standard No.1 boiler combined with smaller coupled wheels than the 'Hall', plus the distinctive raised running plate over the cylinders, are all perfectly captured here. For the 'Grange' we have also produced a model of the very attractive Collett 3,500 gallon tender – available with the locomotive or as a separate item. In fact, you can correctly specify your Masterpiece Models 'Grange' with the Collett 3,500 gallon or 4,000 gallon tender, or in some cases a Hawksworth 4,000 tender. All the options are shown in the photographs, except the Churchward 3,500 gallon tender which is also available.

47XX pre-production sample

The painted pre-production sample of the 47XX 2-8-0 has now been received from the builder and it looks absolutely stunning! The bulk and presence of the prototype has been perfectly captured and once the tweaks and corrections advised by our panel of experts have been made, this will surely be one of the greatest Masterpiece models so far!

Class 52 'Western' diesel - first etches

Etches1

Following the laser scanning of D1015 Western Champion last November, the builder has produced detailed drawings and now the first test etches (above). He has also been testing the assembly of the prominent louvres on the sides and roof slopes of the locomotive and some idea of the quality and intricacy can be seen in this first test:

Louvres1

These assemblies fit precisely behind the openings in the body and roof, allowing glimpses of the equipment inside. When the laser scanning was carried out, it wasn't just the body shape that we wanted to ensure would be correct, but also the interior detail. The 'exploded' view from the laser scanning (below) gives some idea of the parts to be modelled.

Latest pre-production Masterpiece Models

Painted samples of the forthcoming 47XX 2-8-0, 49XX 'Hall' and 68XX 'Grange' have been received from the builder, together with the utterly superb Collett 8750 Pannier Tank in brass which is now undergoing assessment. The 57XX version with the earlier style of cab and detail differences is under construction.

A delightful model of the Collet 3,500 gallon tender has also been added to our catalogue and will be available for all appropriate locomotives, as well as being available separately. You can see it in the photographs of the 'Grange'.

There are still revisions and corrections to be made to these models, but we thought you would like to see the rapid progress on models that will be built in 2017.

The Class 52 'Western' diesel is also progressing rapidly and the builder is working on the pre-production model using the laser scans of D1015 Western Champion that were made last November.
