Future Build - Southern/BR Bulleid Light Pacific’s
Masterpiece Models original (air-smoothed) West Country/Battle of Britain locomotives represent Bulleid’s light Pacific’s as they were when they were in their prime - from shortly after the war through to the early 1960’s and before rebuilding.
By 1946/47 most early modifications had been finalised (and wartime locomotive restrictions removed) so by focusing on the next fifteen years, we cover Bulleid light Pacifics from the end of Southern Railways well into British Railways service, when they all had a familiar and relatively similar appearance. Even so there were numerous variations in their appearance during these fifteen years including three smoke deflector lengths, removal of cylinder farings, changes to slide bar covers, repositioned safety valves, two or three sliding cab windows (with wood painted either brown or green), and so on. More fundamental were different cab widths, slab or V shaped cab fronts, and different tender types. All these options and more will be available (although not the 1947/48 oil burners).
As far as livery is concerned, you chose from Southern malachite green with distinctive sunshine lines, Southern gunmetal roundel on the smokebox with unique numbering; or malachite green with British Railways (or plain tenders) with options for brass roundel and either Southern numbers or BR numbers – (your choice of positioning); or with BR’s lion over wheel. Or any combination. Or if you prefer your light Pacific in BR green, your choice of lion over wheel or totem. The occasional experimental liveries will not be available. And well defined nameplates and shield/coats of arms, wherever applicable. All build and livery options will be available. This means we can represent a specific West County or Battle of Britain locomotive at a period of your choice as it was between 1946 through to circa 1962.
Masterpiece Models will only build ONE of each named West Country or Battle of Britain unrebuilt locomotives. 110 were built and named by SR/BR but our usual limited edition totals 111 so it means one further model will be built and carry one of the changed or unused names – your choice (see prod. no. 071). Once a name has been reserved, no other West Country or Battle of Britain locomotive built by Masterpiece Models will carry that name. Each model will be unique – guaranteed, and to your specification.
For the purposes of our production run, Masterpiece Models West Country and Battle of Britain locomotives will be listed in two groups. This enables us to determine the important build differences between the groups, regardless of whether you require your West Country or Battle of Britain in Southern or British Railways livery (or even a combination of both). This means more accurate models.
We anticipate delivery of our limited edition of 111 West Country or Battle of Britain in late 2011. Each model will cost in the region of £2800. Your choice of name and livery, simply by ticking ONE of the self explanatory relevant boxes alongside either side of the name you require will indicate the number options also. We will get back to you to determine further build details in due course. No funds are required now.
