Future Build - Rebuilt LMS / BR Royal Scots and Patriots
LMS 6P 4-6-0 rebuilt Royal Scots and rebuilt Patriots are confirmed as a future build. Research is well advanced - at last a series with fewer build modifications during production! Once again we are delighted that Mr Bob Meanley of Tyseley Locomotive Works will be our primary adviser. Bob's knowledge of rebuilt Royal Scots is extensive, so this should be a particularly fine and accurate model
We plan to build just one of each rebuilt 'Royal Scots' in British Railways lined green livery (but not 46170 "British Legion" with its distinctly different type 2 boiler). That is 70 in total. In addition we will build a further 3 of 46100 "Royal Scot" itself - these will be the only duplicates; the first of class is always popular. So a total of 73 rebuilt Royal Scots in BR lined green - each one a different name and number (apart from 46100).
The 1946 LMS lined black livery looked attractive on these fine locomotives so we will also produce 18 rebuilt Royal Scots, in LMS livery. We might consider adding the two rebuilt Scots in Locomotive Exchange livery (although not with the WD type 8 wheeled tender used on the Southern) but they are not in our initial schedule. Taking everything into account, Masterpiece Models plans to build a total of 91 rebuilt Royal Scots.
Our research suggests there are fewer Build Specification options. Although the motion of Royal Scots varied (notably valve spindle guides and three different type of coupling rods), there were not many other significant variations between individual Royal Scots in the period we are covering. Our research highlights that major build components such as boilers, boiler fittings, cab details, tender, painting and lining, etc. don’t have to be modified during production - which is a first for a Masterpiece Models production run! In addition we can also use certain already produced Duchess components such as buffers, vacuum pipes, AWS, cylinder compression relief valve, some cab fittings, safety valves, and many tender components etc. [Who said the Western alone had standardised loco fittings?] In theory rebuilt Royal Scots should be a simpler build than other classes we've tackled. We will see.
Rebuilt Patriots were very similar in appearance to rebuilt Royal Scots, so we will add them to the Scot production run in order to bring the total to 111 LMS 6P's. They add a series of very different names to the LMS Class 6 4-6-0 build. There were differences though between rebuilt Patriots and rebuilt Scots (in train spotting days, we could identify both types!). Our rebuilt Patriots will reflect these differences. We will construct 18 rebuilt Patriots in BR lined green livery (with tender logo options) - again just one of each name and number. In addition we will build 2 in LMS 1946 lined black - your choice although we list all those that qualify from our initial research.
Build numbers quoted above may alter slightly depending on initial reservations. Detail build modifications will appear on the "rebuilt Royal Scot/Patriot" 'Latest News' website nearer the date of the build. Follow the link below to see availability and reserve your rebuilt Royal Scot/Patriot, knowing that each model will be unique apart from 46100 "Royal Scot" (and LMS/BR options).
