Gauge 1 LNER / BR A4 Availability
One of our first Gauge 1 museum quality models will be a limited edition of Gresley's streamlined A4's. A4's require no introduction; thirty-five were built by the LNER; one destroyed in WW2. We will build one of each individually named and numbered A4; condition & livery of choice - with exceptions to extend the build below. Each model will be unique. Fifty-three names and numbers and conditions are listed.
As there is likely to be considerable interest in the original four 'Silver' series, we will build 2509/14/60014 "Silver Link"; 2510/15/60115 "Quicksilver"; 2511/16/60016 "Silver King" and 2511/17/60017 "Silver Fox" in three versions - firstly in almost 'as built' condition, in silver grey with painted names on casing, single chimneys, cylinder casing, etc; secondly in early pre-war or post war pre 1948 condition with conventional nameplates, etc.; thirdly in later BR condition (BR blue or green) again with conventional nameplates, etc. The four 'Golden' names will attract interest, especially the two renamed. 4495 will appear twice as either "Great Snipe" or 30/60030 "Golden Fleece"; 4496 twice as "Golden Shuttle" or 8/60008 "Dwight G Eisenhower". Similarly because of overseas interest, we will build 4488 "Union of South Africa"; 4489 "Dominion of Canada"; 4490 "Empire of India"; 4491 "Commonwealth of Australia" and 4492 "Dominion of New Zealand" in almost 'as built' condition in LNER blue, cut out polished metal numbers, single chimneys, cylinder casings, etc; also in later BR condition (BR blue or green), numbered 60009; 60010; 60011; 60012 and 60013. Further, as there is likely to be much interest in 4468/22/60022 "Mallard", three versions will be built. 4498/60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" will have two versions in LNER and BR condition. So these thirteen A4's will be triplicated/duplicated although each will be quite different to any other(s) bearing the same name. There will be just one model of each of the remaining twenty-two A4's. All this of course, is subject to demand.
We will build-in modifications often linked to period to meet requirements. Obvious modifications are single or double chimneys, corridor (both types) or non-corridor tender and cylinder casing. Less obvious are the smaller, less common modifications such as guard irons, lamp iron positioning. Be assured these models will be thoroughly researched before build commences and agreed with the buyer of each individual A4. Livery is another key feature and we will offer LNER lined green or blue and BR lined green and blue; as well as the various embellishments - A4's had many! We list 53 A4's of which we will build a minimum of 35. The following list is not necessarily complete, and we reserve the right to make changes, depending on demand. A production No has tentatively been allocated to each proposed build and if you are seriously interested in a particular A4, please reserve from the list. Of course there is no obligation on your part or Masterpiece Models to proceed further. At this stage the following list is primarily for market research although we will honour your reservation should the build proceed.
